Why AI Can't Replace Your Best Career Asset

Can we talk about the LinkedIn scroll for a second?

You open the app, and within three minutes you've been hit with five articles about how AI is coming for your job, your industry, your entire career trajectory. And look - I get it. That content gets clicks. Fear is a powerful driver.

But I want to offer you something different today. Because where your energy goes? That's where your results flow. And right now, a whole lot of people are pouring their energy straight into the drain of doom.

Let's redirect.

Yes, AI Is Changing Things. And That's Not the Whole Story.

Let me be clear: I'm not here to tell you AI isn't real or that it won't reshape some roles. It absolutely will - and in some cases, already has. That's just the truth.

But here's the rest of the story that doesn't get as many clicks.

According to PwC's 2025 Global AI Jobs Barometer - based on analysis of close to a billion job ads - job availability actually grew 38% in roles most exposed to AI. (Gsdcouncil) Not shrank. Grew. And workers with AI skills are now commanding an average 56% wage premium - double what it was just the year before. (Gsdcouncil)

This is not the story of AI eating the workforce. This is the story of AI amplifying the people who decide to use it.

"You can be a victim of AI, or you can be powered by it. That choice starts with where you put your attention."

The Real Divide Isn't Human vs. AI - It's Mindset vs. Mindset

Here's what I know from working with professionals at every stage of their careers: the people who are thriving right now aren't the ones with the most credentials or the fanciest title. They're the ones who said, okay, this is happening - how do I make it work for me?

PwC's 2025 Global Workforce Survey of nearly 50,000 workers found that people who use generative AI daily are significantly more likely to report benefits to their productivity, job security, and salary than those who use it infrequently. (National Able) The tool is the same. The difference is engagement.

So the question isn't whether AI is going to impact your world. It already is. The question is: are you going to sit on the sidelines watching it happen, or are you going to get in the game?

Practical Ways to Put AI to Work for Your Career Right Now

Whether you're currently employed or in job search mode, there are real, accessible ways to start using AI as your career co-pilot - not a replacement, a co-pilot.

If you're currently employed: Go to your manager and ask about internal AI learning opportunities. I promise you, that conversation will land well. 70% of organizations right now are struggling to teach their workers the AI skills they need (Mercer) - so the fact that you're raising your hand and showing initiative? That already puts you ahead.

If you're job searching: Use AI to work smarter - not to game the system, but to genuinely sharpen your approach. Use it to prep for interviews, refine your personal brand, tighten your resume and cover letters, optimize your LinkedIn, and discover job platforms and opportunities beyond the usual LinkedIn feed. Think of it as having a very fast, very available career strategist in your pocket.

Research from Harvard, MIT, and BCG found that people using AI complete tasks up to 25% faster (Mercer) - and that kind of efficiency edge in a job search is not nothing.

Look Around at Who You're Getting Your Energy From

This one matters more than people realize.

If your whole circle is in panic mode about AI, feeding every conversation with fear and worst-case scenarios, that's the lens you're going to see your career through. Energy is contagious - the fearful kind and the forward-moving kind.

Seek out the people who are leaning in. The ones who are experimenting, upskilling, staying curious. Because this is not the first time technology has disrupted the world of work, and the ones who came out ahead were never the ones who hid from it. They were the ones who got curious about it first.

You Are Your Best Career Asset. Full Stop.

Your judgment. Your empathy. Your relationships. Your ability to read a room, inspire a team, navigate complexity, and bring something that no algorithm can replicate - that's still yours. The future of work isn't about machines taking over - it's about how humans and AI work together. (Borderless AI) And that partnership starts with you deciding to show up for it.

So here's my challenge: instead of clicking on the next doom article, ask yourself - what's one way I could use AI to move my career forward this week? Start there. One step. One experiment. One small shift in where you're putting your energy.

That's how surviving becomes thriving.
